Summer Days. . .

Happy summer everyone!  I'm already having tons of fun with my two little men. . .Christian is all about baking cupcakes (or anything else that's loaded with sugar and calories)!  He really loves cooking, and I can't wait to try out some new recipes and decorating tips with him. 

Solomon has fallen in love with watermelon, but he refuses to accept any assistance while eating it.  That's why he has his little bowl and a towel as he sits on the kitchen floor!

For the past few days I've been at a summer curriculum conference which is held by my district each summer.  I got a lot of great ideas from the conference.  One of my favorites was a new twist on a fairly common classroom activity "I Have...Who Has...?"  This game promotes listening skills which is an essential skill for little ones.  I plan on creating cards for upper and lower case letters, number recognition, colors, shapes, basic math facts, and vocabulary.  I think they're  great for review or if you just need a quick time filler.

I plan on creating a few more sets like this to review kinder word wall words at the beginning of the school year.

The first card in each set has two "green words," and the last card has a stop sign on it. All you have to to is laminate and cut them.  Mix them up and they're ready to go.  I designed them with a class of 22 in mind so you'll have to make a few adjustments depending on the actual number of kids you have in your class.

You can use this activity as a measurement activity for math. After the students make their prediction, they can measure and record their actual answer.  I also included a place to write in tens/ones and odd or even.  There is also a place for them to illustrate.  

 I have been really into cupcakes lately, and I'm making lots of cupcake "stuff."  Here are some pictures of things that I purchased recently for the class.

I got a really great science idea from this book about colors.  I recently made a "Valentine Science" unit for TpT.  This book is from Kohl's, and it's in the same section as the Eric Carle books right now.  All proceeds go to kids!

 

I also picked up these nesting cupcakes.  I'm hoping to use them with a capacity lesson!

I picked up this little cute little cupcake sign for the front door (later today I'm hoping to post pics with a classroom tour so that will probably be one of the first ones you see)!

Last I picked up a "giant" cupcake with a lid.  I think I'm going to keep prizes and treats in it, and make a sign that says "Caught ya being sweet!"

14 Days of Love! (day 4)

Soft Sugar Cookies

The "14 days of Love" continues!  I have included one of my favorite sugar cookie recipes, a patriotic cupcake glyph, a writing extension activity, and a glyph analysis page (which are all part of a "Presidential Hopefuls" unit that I'm working on).  Christian and I will use the recipe to bake some cookies later today...enjoy!
