I know you probably have enough Dr. Seuss stuff to last you a whole month (maybe longer).  I started looking through all of my Dr. Seuss files and downloads, and ended up making this one short and sweet!  


I downloaded Rachelle's cute Dr. Suess stuff here, and then I purchased Donna's unit from TpT (which is packed-100 pages)!  Between the two of them and stuff I already had-I am well prepared for next week!

Cute Stuff!

For the past couple of weeks, I've had a student teacher in my classroom, and she's doing all of the teaching at this point.  It's SO hard for me to sit back and be "invisible."  Today I took a walk around the building, and here are a few cute ideas that I found.

Weekend Fun!

We have had a very busy, event-filled weekend complete with shopping, parties, and hopefully relaxation too!  

My husband's mom and Christian share the same birthday so we had a surprise party for her today!  We had a party for Christian with our family and close friends yesterday, and on Tuesday, he'll celebrate with friends from school!

We've had our share of cake this weekend!

 I have also done my share of "post Valentine's Day" shopping, and I managed to pick up a few other things (that always seems to happen to me-especially at Dollar Tree, Walmart, and Target)!  Is that a problem for anyone else???

Here is some Valentine stuff (and a few other slightly random items) that you might be interested in...not sure what I'll do with everything, but I know these items will come in handy-the life of a teacher!

This set is perfect for our "Dr. Seuss Week" during the first week of March! I absolutely LOVE studying about Dr. Seuss and all of his wonderful literature!

7 things about myself:

1. I would love to take a culinary arts class to add a bit of spice to my cooking skills.


2. I am an early bird...very rarely am I still asleep at 7:00 a.m.  (This is mainly due to 2 very active fellas who will remain nameless).

5.  I love singing, but I only sing around the house while no one else is around.  I especially like to sing with a hairbrush in front of the mirror with the music turned up really loud!


6. I have been skiing twice, and decided that I was much safer (and warmer) sipping hot cocoa in cute little botiques while my family members hit the slopes.


7. One of my favorite movies is "Coming to America."

President's Day

This week we have learned a lot about George Washington, Abe Lincoln, and Barack Obama.  

We have been reading some great literature. . .

learning about sequencing events through timelines. . .

writing about the "Presidential Life". . .

and creating some great artwork. 

I loved the details from this student's artwork.  He drew himself as a rescue hero and giving a speech in front of a microphone while being videotaped.

Book Boxes

Here's a quick and easy teacher tip for those who use Daily 5 or Reader's Workshop in your classroom.  At the beginning of the year all of my students get their own "book box." Inside of their book box, are all of the materials that they will use for the entire literacy block.  Since the students have everything that they need for independent work, small group, or buddy reading in one place this really saves us a lot of time!

Of course there are books 

(on their independent reading level)...  

a marker board, dry erase marker, and eraser for independent use and during small group instruction...

a making words folder and letters...

headphones for listening to reading at the computer...

and a journal for reading responses and reflections.

All of these materials are stored in boxes (from Dollar Tree).  At the beginning of the year, they just have books.  As the year progresses and I introduce new activities they get the other items.  By the mid-year point they have a book box complete with all of their literacy tools.  We call them our "literacy tool kits."  This cuts down on getting up, roaming around the room, and misplaced items!


In the next few weeks, once my students become really proficient at using the "mini-boggle" games, we'll include those in the boxes.  I'm sure there are many other reading tools we could include.


Here are a few books that I love to use at the beginning of the year to help the students think about their reading tools and to build excitement about becoming better readers and writers.
