Open House 2011

One of my students gave me that cute little "p" sign.  She knows I love polka dots so her fingerprints are all over it!  I love it!

Our theme was fairy tales so this book was displayed near the sign in table.  We're also working a "fairy tale" newspaper this week.  It's a work in progress.

Here are the castles that we made.  Each student also created a fairy tale math problem and used math strategies to solve.  Below the castles, each student wrote about if they were the "king" or "queen" of our school.  They also decorated a crown with jewels.

This was something new that I had never done before, but the families really enjoyed it.  It was an entire wall filled with fairy tales and fractured tales that we've been working on.  These are just a few highlights!

  1. I love the display of books. How did you attach them to the wall?

  3. What a complete and total goober I am - I JUST figured out the pear-E sign!!!! I kept thinking it was about Paris or something when I saw it posted a few weeks ago. What a clever sign for YOU! :) Now I want to change my name! LOL

  4. The display is where I normally hang student work. There are laminated pieces of construction paper which are stapled to the wall. Each one has two paper clips so that I can easily slide work in place without stapling or using sticky tack every time. I wasn't sure if the books were going to stay well, but it turned out great!

  6. I LOVE the book display. I may have to use that next school year for Back To School Night! What an inviting way for parents to see what the class is reading! :)

  9. I love the books on the wall. That is extremely clever. I think I might do something similar above my reading center with a featured author of the week.
