Today we had a "poetry picnic." This was the culminating activity for our poetry unit of study, and the students and families had a wonderful time! There's nothing like a picnic lunch on a nice spring day with some good poetry. . .
Keep a poem in your pocket
and a picture in your head
and you'll never feel lonely
at night when you're in bed
The little poem will sing to you
the little picture bring to you
a dozen dreams to dance to you
at night when you're in bed

These poetry pockets turned out pretty cute! All of the kids' poetry were tucked inside!
These are just a few examples of alliteration. My kids really enjoyed learning about onomatopoeia, rhythm, and shape poems as well! The parents absolutely loved this, and many of my students discovered that they were "poets" and they "didn't even know it!" This became a compliment in our room during our study of poetry. . . best of all the weather was perfect {you never know what you're gonna get in Texas}!
