How "Tues"day Tip #2

If you use take home readers for your students or "theme" bags with books, stuffed animals, and writing connections you might like this project.  It was inspired by a youtube video.

My students have a nightly take-home reader, and I also like to incorporate "theme" bags throughout the year so my students can complete projects at home with their families which are connected to literature, author studies, or thematic units.  Mrs. Shehan, a kinder teacher does a fabulous job of using family projects throughout the year.

This project is very inexpensive, and it's very "green" since it has a recycling component.  Most of the items that you need are probably already at your house.  The only item that I purchased was duct tape.  I picked up some of the colorful rolls from Home Depot, and it's priced at about $3.00 per roll.

Here are a few snapshots of the transformation from "t-shirt" to "tote.

This is all that's left of the shirt.

I recently purchased Color Day Fun (Made for 1st Grade) from TpT, and I know Mr. Perry will definitely look forward to helping me create bags to accompany all of the literature from the unit!
It's on sale for $8.00!

Now it's on to the next project.  I have about a bazillion bags like these since all sorts of baby/children's, clothing, towels, and bedding are packaged like this.  I have been saving all of them for 3 years, and now I have enough to start my own packaging company!  I've either got to use them or chunk them, and it will be just about impossible for me to get rid of them because of the "teacher" in me!
