Come Spend the Week With Us!

This week we're SO excited because it's finally October!  We {heart} the cool weather, colorful leaves, eating candy corn {and lot of other sweet treats}, and all of the fun things that can be done {hayrides, pumpkin patch, petting farm, state fair of Texas, costumes, pumpkin carving, fall festivals, fire safety, Columbus Day, caramel apples, candy. . .so much fun}!  This week we'd like to invite you in to take a peek at our week!  It's "fire safety" week here, and we've got a lot planned!

October is also "National Cookie and National Book Month!"  These are two of our favorite things! If you go to the Great American Cookie Company today, you can grab a free chocolate chip cookie for their "Reading is Sweet" kickoff, and you can learn more about their book drive which will will take place all month long!

This is a rough sketch of how I plan out our activities for each week.  By the end of the week things are crossed out, there are a few arrows written in, and things look a bit different {sound familiar?}  Well I believe that lesson plans should be a "living, breathing" document.  Teachers know that things come up unexpectedly ALL THE TIME!   Yes, you need a plan, but you've also got to be flexible!  Flexibility is the name of the game in the classroom and at home!

As part of "National Book Month," I'm also going to post a series called "A Book a Day, Keeps Boredom Away!"  I plan to share one book during each day of October.  The book will either be for toddlers, primary learners, or moms!  Some of the books will be related to fall/autumn, and others will be books for anytime of the year.

The book{s} for today are by Dr. James Dobson.  Whether you have boys, girls, or both I recommend these!  I have only read the "boy" version, but my sister {who has three gorgeous, smart, and sweet little girls}, has read the "girl" version!  It is full of practical advice, and it opened my eyes to a few things about "growing" boys that I didn't know.  I cannot say that I agree with every single idea or statement within the book, but I do think as a whole it is a great read.

Every week I make out a sketch that looks something like this.  It's pretty vague because I usually add pictures or book covers to help me {or others who I share them with} remember more about each activity.  I also listed some great TPT resources that I've found for teaching about fire safety.
