  1. I became a teacher because I grew up around teachers...both of my grandparents were teachers (my grandmother got a 2 year teaching degree from Marshall University and taught in a one room schoolhouse in West Virginia) and my mother, who volunteers in my classroom every Tuesday, taught 5th grade for 35 years.

  2. I basically love teaching! I love creating new things to try with my kiddos. I also love sharing that information on my blog! Teaching is like a hobby to me and not a job. I was actually in my classroom today for 4 hours and I didn't even have school! :)

  3. I became a teacher because I beleive that an education is a gateway to opportunities. I want to share that gift with others. I love teaching! Nothing is better than seeing a classroom buzzing with learning.

  4. I love teaching my little kindies. It is so fun to see them learn to read and write. I found this passion when I was 41 years old and I have enjoyed every minute of it!

  5. I have been teaching for 33 years---and still keep on learning from my students as they learn from me!

  6. I love teaching little ones. I love seeing them change throughout the year, and I love being able to be there for them in any way possible. Also, catching their "Aha" moments are priceless, when they finally get something you have been teaching.

  7. My favorite thing about teaching is watching my kindergarten students learn new skills when they don't even know they are "learning" and then applying it back to different skills later in the year. They are truly like little sponges. It is awesome to see a child progress and grow a love for learning!

  8. I love teaching because each year brings a brand new set of joys and challenges. This year I have a student that is a selective mute....it has brought many challenges and joys when I see the progress he makes. He still hasn't talked, but he will now participate and use the Promethean Board and move around the classroom on his own!! Anyone ever had a selective mute in their class?

  10. I love the stories I can walk away with from school everyday! I always feel comfortable with my kiddos and that's what i love! My bad days always go away...because they love you unconditionally and of course I love them too!

  11. I love that every day is different and that every day you have the ability to help your students learn about the world around them.

  12. I love teaching. After five years at a middle school, I am so blessed to be teaching first grade. My favorite part is watching them think. I love it when they make connections that I haven't even thought of. During a lesson on how maps change, one child made reference to "back when everything was black and white...." He had remembered that a long time ago all pictures were in black and white and made the connection. It cracked me up. The same child was absolutely certain that he had seen a pilgrim on the way to his aunts house. She lives in an area with a large number of Amish people! They just brighten my day.

  13. I love teaching kindergarten! My favorite is when the kids slip and call me "mom" or "grandma" which happens so often! They get embarrassed but I tell them not too because I love them like their moms and grandmas do :)

  14. I started out as a theater major and during a puppetry performance for an elementary school decided my real calling was in education. I love being a teacher because every day is new and different. Even my "bad" days are good days.

  15. Kindergarteners are the BEST! It is so exciting to watch them learn all these new things and to see how far they come from the beginning to the end of kindergarten. One of my favorite things is when I hear them saying something that I say when they are working, sometimes even using my tone of voice. Teaching is the best job ever!

  16. I have some kids that are very "intense" about things doing right for them. EArly in the year, we talked about Chicken Little (I forget the reason why). When one of my kinders start getting upset about something trivial, I started saying "The world will not end. The sky will not fall. You are not Chicken Little." And they love it. It always makes them smile and they realize it will be ok for things not to "perfect".

The other day we were walking down the hall and a student from another class dropped their Art box. They were getting very upset and I overhead one of my kids saying "The world will not end...the sky will not fall...you're not Chicken Little." I love it!

  17. What I love about teaching is that you never know what is going to come out of a child's mouth! :) They always keep you on your feet and are excited to learn. Everything is so new to them when they are younger and they soak up information like little sponges. I can be having a crummy day and all it takes is to see those smiling faces staring back at me to cheer me up. Teaching is such a rewarding profession!

  18. I love learning and love to share that love with my students. So glad all of you younger teachers can and will share your wonderful creations with a not very computer savvy "old(er) dog"!!

  19. I love teaching especially when you see the light come on in a child's eyes!!

  20. I love teaching because I am making a better tomorrow for my kids. I feel like I am doing something that changes the world because I come in contact with at least 20 kids that are touched by me!

  21. What I love about teaching is the pureness of the children and the comical things they say. As adults we all become a little bit jaded, but children still see the world with simplicity. Recently, one of my students stopped me in the middle of a small group lesson to make a simple statement: “Mrs. Lewis, do you know that Santa drinks beer!?” I attempted to ignore her comments, but couldn’t help buy ask how she know that. She informed me that every Christmas Eve she leaves Santa beer and cookies and in the morning the beer is always empty. With a perplexed look on her face she said, “I just don’t get it….you’re not allowed to drink and drive, but you’re allowed to drink and fly!?!” This is just one example (as I’m sure you have many as well) of the children brighten my day everyday! I could never see myself working in any other profession! Teaching is by far the best! :)

  22. I've always known I wanted to be a teacher and can't imagine doing any thing else. I love teaching because I love to learn and teaching is the best way to really learn something. I love that I get to share and spread my love of learning everyday! I learn so much from my students and have grown so much personally and professional, thanks to my students and collegues. I love making a special connection with each of my students and discovering each of their special gifts. I wish I had written down all of the hilarious things my students have said over the years because it would make pretty great book!

  23. Love listening to life according to 5-6 year olds. We were working on our picture of what we would look like in 100 years and one little one says, "When your old your head doesn't fit into your skin, so you have wrinkles." They never hold back and say it like it is!

  24. Here's a funny story from today. We are writing Valentine's Day quatrains. We spent a lot of time talking about rhyme scheme, etc. Here is one a little boy in my class came up with.

    Roses are red.
    Violets are blue.
    If you write to me
I won't write back cuz my momma don't got no envelopes.

    :)

  25. I grew up wanting to be a teacher....And now that I am I could never imagine myself doing anything else! The thing that I love the most is when you make a connection with the "difficult" student....You know the one that will not do his/her work, whose parents are in/out and indecisive about what they are doing with their student, the one who's home life is just a mess and that effects them in every one, the one who hates to look you in the eye....My most favorite part for me is when that student looks at me and FINALLY after everything, and listening to me tell them "love you, mean it" EVERY day for the entire school you, looks back and say Miss C I love you mean it too! And then sometime within that same time frame everything changes, that student begins completing every assignment and working their very hardest..... THAT MY FRIENDS IS WHAT I LIVE FOR AND THAT is what I LOOOOOOVE about teaching!

  26. I most love the astute and articulate nature of children. The things that kids come up with are amazing when they just sit back and watch. :-)

  27. I love my job and think that teachers really have the best job in the world and one of the hardest. What I love about my job is the way the kids faces light up when they learn something new, how excited they get when I tell them they are doing first grade work (they are kindergartners) and how much they love me.

  28. I truly describe my life like the feather in Forest Gump. I floated through working in professional sports through interior designing before finding my resting place preserved in a book. I have been teaching for six years and found a true passion. The kids inspire me daily. I have been with my same students for several years. Looping in the public school systems allows for the kids in a transient society to feel like they truly have a home outside a home. I excited to make the a transition to Kindergarten and begin looping through primary grades again!

  29. I knew from a very early age that I wanted to be a teacher when I grew up. Well I feel like I never did grow up but I did become a 1st grade teacher. It has been the most rewarding experience! I couldn't imagine being anyone else or anywhere else except in the classroom!

  30. I feel teaching is the best job in the world!! I made the decision to become a teacher when I was in the first grade. My teacher made such an impact on my life that I wanted to do the same for other children.

  31. I love being able to make a difference in my kiddo's lives. For some of my kindergartners, school is as good as it gets...it is the safe place where they can learn. What better job is there than that!? I also love being a kindergarten since you are the first teacher in their school lives. Of course they always say that you are their favorite teacher! I always laugh and in my mind think that I'm their favorite until they get to their first grade teacher!!!! :D
