This post is really supposed to be all about a little craftivity that my kids absolutely loved, but I just can't resist throwing in a few updates about my little Sol. I can see the light at the end of the tunnel. . .he's doing so well on his little frog potty! I snagged these pics a few weeks ago. His hair looks a mess because I think he had just woken up after one of those nice Sunday afternoon naps. He's still in his "Sunday best" button down shirt and corduroys. I know he'll want to hide these photos or delete them from my computer in about 5-7 years, but I just love these shots. He is hilarious because he sees Mr. Perry, Christian, and I reading all the time. . .so he's following in our steps {as he takes care of business}!
Since I gave you an update about Sol, here's a look at some fun things that Christian and I did on St. Patty's Day. He loved all of these activities, and they were projects that I would have done with my students if we hadn't been on spring break.
Wearing green. . .
St. Paddy's Day Sauce
I had two ideas for this little packet of sauce. Wouldn't it be fun to have a taste test with regular ketchup and this sauce? I would love to blindfold a few volunteers to see if they could tell the difference! Students could compare/contrast them, or even write a recipe for how they think it's made!
So this is what it really looks like!

Solomon wanted no part of it. . . a fry stayed in there the entire time, and his sauce was donated to Christian!
We grew a little green grasshopper. This was a birthday gift from a sweet teacher friend. . . there was so much excitement over that bug {I cannot even express how many times I heard "Can we check the bug? Is it growing? What's happening? Why is it changing?" all within such a short period of time}. I have to say that I do love to hear students use scientific questioning and thinking. . .so we must be doing something right since he's just four!
The final grasshopper. . .We are now allowing him to return to his normal size. We'll get him out again soon {I'm sure of that}!
We read a few books. . .
We talked about how chameleons can change colors, and then we brainstormed a list of things that are "green." I made a little book of green with sight words too. Christian is using a green marker and different shades of green crayon to work on this. I'll have to share the final copy with you-it's looking pretty cute! I know you're probably done with being "green" {although Earth Day is coming up next month}. So youcan get a copy here to file away for later if you're interested!
O.K. Here's what this post is really supposed to be about. . .fractions {sorry I got so far off track-my mind is everywhere these days}! I'm still working away on my little fraction unit, and I'm hoping to finish soon. A teacher friend of mine and I have also been working on a wonderful fractured fairy tale unit, and it's over 125 pages so far with some really cute stuff. Be on the lookout for it if you're doing fairy tales any time soon. . .
This project was so much fun for my kids because we turned our little tile walkway into a bowling alley {the rest of the room is carpeted}.
